Jaycie Smith is a high school teacher, historian, and lifelong researcher with a passion for preserving and sharing the history of East Texas. Her research has focused on East Texas families, communities, schools, businesses, churches, and the people who helped shape the region.

Jaycie earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from The University of Texas at Tyler in 2008, followed by a Master of Arts in History from Sam Houston State University in 2017. In 2026, she completed a Master of Arts in School Counseling from The University of Texas at Tyler. Her diverse educational background has allowed her to combine her interests in education, history, research, and working with students.

She is a member of the Brownsboro Historical Society, Texas State Historical Association, and Association for Gravestone Studies. Jaycie is also the administrator of The East Texas History Page, where she shares stories, photographs, research, and historical discoveries from communities across the region. She previously served for three years as the Blog Committee Chairperson for the Texas State Genealogical Association.

Jaycie’s current research interests include family genealogy, school history, local communities, and the stories of everyday people whose lives helped shape East Texas. She especially enjoys uncovering the connections between families, places, and events and bringing those stories back to life.

When she isn’t researching, teaching, or digging through old records, Jaycie enjoys reading, genealogy, gardening, and spending time with her family.
